The Story Behind our Logo
The earliest form of the character "玄" in oracle bone script resembles a skein of silk thread hanging down — symbolizing the process of dyeing and drying textiles. This visual origin ties the character directly to ancient textile craftsmanship. In ancient Chinese dyeing techniques, colors were achieved through repeated dyeing. "玄" refers to a shade achieved through seven rounds of dyeing — black tinged with red, deep but not absolute, dark yet subtly alive.
The name, Sevenfold Dyes, is inspired by the ancient philosophy of Chinese dyeing, where every layer of color embodies time, meaning, and mystery. Our yarns are dyed through a multi-layered process that echoes this timeless tradition. Each skein carries the weight of artisanal care and the quiet beauty of patience, resulting in hues that feel as boundless and profound as the cosmos.
